Disney enthusiasts tell us what divine desserts they love!

We talk to some Disney enthusiasts to discover what divine desserts tickle their taste buds and why Disney is the most magical place in the world...

You have your Disney tickets in hand and now you’re hankering for something sinfully sweet at Walt Disney World in Florida. Look no further than our handy candy guide where we have spoken to some Disney fans who talk us through the crème de la crème of indulgent goodies on offer and where to find them.

Mickey Mouse Ice-Cream Bar

Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Bar

One of the most iconic images of Disney are the Mickey Mouse ears.

You are guaranteed to see people pottering around the parks clutching a mouse shaped chocolate covered ice-cream. Suzy from Our Bucket List Lives said this frozen treat is something which brought some welcome cooling relief during the hotter months.

She said: “Having one of these can keep you going for hours as they are so filling. They are shaped like Mickey's face. The ice-cream is vanilla flavoured and coated in hard chocolate. It was hot when we were there, about 30C every day and those were great for cooling us down. Plus, they are so Disney! They are easy to come by and most places with a freezer at Disney sell them.”

Suzy and her family describe Walt Disney World Resort as “magical”. She said: “We spent more than 10 days there during our visit and it still wasn't enough. I could have happily spent another week there. It is great for young and old, and the rides are second to none for families.”

Sweet drinks and cocktails

Perhaps you fancy something sweet, but a heavy pudding is just too much to stomach, especially if you still have a lot of rides left to tackle. Erika Moulton is a former Walt Disney cast member and told us that she is a lover of splurging on sweet drinks.

She said: “My favourites are some of the adult beverages you find in World's Showcase in Epcot. Perhaps not considered a dessert by some, I for one would rather a sweet cocktail than a heavy dessert.

“My favourite is the Le Geant Grand Marnier Slush at the France pavilion. It's light, fresh, and a delicious way for adults to enjoy a taste of France. Another huge favourite are the margaritas at La Cava del Tequila in the Mexico pavilion. Again, another fresh and fun way to enjoy your time while you're taking in the sights and sounds of the different cultures represented in the World Showcase.”

The Le Geant Grand Marnier Slush is a frozen mixture of Grand Marnier, rum and Grey Goose Orange and orange juice. A delicious way to keep cool and satisfy those sweet tooth cravings.

Erika spent three wonderful years working for the mouse and even met her now husband via Disney. She said: “Walt Disney wanted to create a place where the entire family, from oldest to youngest, could enjoy, relax, and create memories.

“I've been going to Disney for more than 20 years and I worked for the mouse for three years, I know the inner workings. And yet somehow, when I walk through the entrance gates, I still get butterflies when Cinderella's castle comes into view.

“There's a magic that comes alive within when you enter a Disney park. Walt Disney World is an amazing place to visit because it's one of the very few places where everyone can have fun. It's a place where time stands still. The young, and the young at heart, all experience the joy of Disney's magic and wonder.”

Try The Grey Stuff – it’s delicious

“It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight. And now we invite you to relax, let us pull up a chair as the dining room proudly presents: your dinner.”

As many Disney fans will recall, this famous quote comes from the Beauty and the Beast movie scene where Belle ventures out of her bedroom after sacrificing her own freedom in return for her father’s and becoming the Beasts’ prisoner.

Lumiere introduces Belle to the grey stuff, which is a curious dish in the musical number Be Our Guest. The grey stuff sweet treat at Walt Disney World is one delicious treat visitors must try, according to Steph from Stepherella

Steph said: “Walt Disney World is home to many Mickey-shaped treats, from Rose Gold Cupcakes to the classic Churros. The treats are on trend matching the latest pair of ears and spirit jerseys too. I am not a huge fan of sweet treats, but I did try the Grey Stuff, and it was delicious! It is a lovely mousse with a biscuit base, and you can order this at the Be Our Guest restaurant.”

Steph said Mickey waffles are also a must-have when visiting Walt Disney World. She said: “I had my Mickey waffles at Ohana’s character breakfast with lots of maple syrup. I know you can get Simba themed ones in Animal Kingdom too. They are heavenly, and I can’t wait to have these again on my next trip. The pancakes and pastry items at the bon voyage breakfast were also mouth-watering and served in a frying pan.”

The London-based blogger described Walt Disney World as “such an amazing place to visit because there is always something new to experience”. Steph said: “New character opportunities and seasons make it forever changing and a reason to go back.

“There are so many different things to do from rides to shows so nobody misses out. The experiences go above and beyond making it very magical indeed.”

Resort Hopping

Walt Disney World Resort Florida

Variety is the spice of life. So, don’t just stay in one resort, take advantage of everything Disney has to offer and be prepared to resort hop. This tactic is something Crystal and Bryson from For Love of the Mouse do regularly to satisfy their sweet cravings.

The duo said: “A few of our current favourites include the peanut butter pie from Contempo Café at the Magic Kingdom Resort. This peanut butter pie is decadent and rich, one for true peanut butter lovers.

“If you aren't resort hopping, there are still mouth-watering treats to be found in the parks. We are loving the lunch box tarts from Woody's Lunch Box at Disney's Hollywood Studios. We dream about them and can't venture into Andy's backyard without at least one of the delicious tarts.

Currently, they are offering the Chocolate Hazelnut which is topped with bacon pieces and the cran-apple version which is delicious. Epcot, the food mecca of Disney World, never disappoints. We will go out of our way to head over to Karamell Kuche in the Germany pavilion for their caramel butter bar. This treat is melt-in-your-mouth, sweet, buttery goodness that we highly recommend.”

The couple said when you walk under the Walt Disney World sign you are made to feel at home “Leaving behind the stress of the outside world, Disney has stayed true to Walt Disney's vision of creating a world for everyone, regardless of age, stage of life and path.”

“Disney World is a place unlike any other, with magic around every turn, customer service that can't be beaten and no matter how many times you go, you will find new magic to be had. From amazing food, fantastic events, stage shows, rides, themes and details, you will never experience all of Disney because it is ever evolving and will forever be capturing the magic of today, tomorrow and yesterday.”

Sodas and sandwiches

Walt Disney World Food and Drink

No, not a savoury sandwich, but a sweet Belgian waffle stuffed full of Nutella adorned with fresh strawberries, blueberries and bananas. You can track down this treat in the Magic Kingdom at Sleepy Hollow.

Mr Daps, from Daps Magic (a very special group of Disney Annual Passholders and Disney Fans), commented: “This is probably my favourite single dish to be found at the Walt Disney World Resort inside the parks. It is quite filling, so either skip lunch or share it with someone. Sleepy Hollow is in Liberty Square under the shadow of Cinderella’s Castle, so it is the perfect place to enjoy a wonderful dessert.”

However, Mr Daps’ number one place for a sweet treat is the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. He said: “For me, everything sweet must be counterbalanced by something a bit savoury. This is the perfect place for this.

“There are some absolutely incredible shakes and ice-cream sundaes. Couple that with some fries and maybe a burger and your taste buds are going to be happy campers.”

Dole Whip

Walt Disney World Dole Whip

The best way to describe a Dole Whip is fruity and refreshing – this frozen pineapple treat is the perfect pick-me-up after walking and queuing for rides. It’s an extremely popular dairy-free soft serve dessert which has been uploaded to Instagram more than 173,350 times.

Travel, lifestyle and beauty blogger Giana Spiteri at Tea with Gi explained that the Dole Whip was the first sweet treat she immediately thinks of when visiting Walt Disney World. She said: “I did a semester abroad in Florida, and before my first trip to Disney my roommate raved on about these Dole Whip ice-creams which they sell in the park.

“We literally walked around in circles, in 35C heat searching for the stand and it was as if we had seen gold when we finally found it. It is basically pineapple juice topped with a kind of pineapple frozen yoghurt. With the humidity in Florida, it's a must have at the park.”

Giana said the combination of the soul of Disney and adrenaline filled rides is what makes it such a wonderful place to visit. She also said: “Whether you're 10, 18 or 50-years-old there's something for everyone and it really is a magical experience. I first went when I was 9 and then again when I was 21, and it's crazy how some of the rides seemed a lot different to how I remembered them.”

Colourful cupcakes

Walt Disney World Cupcakes

There is an abundance of cakes and cookies to chomp on as you meander your way through the resort. The treats are often decorated with brightly coloured icing and sprinkled with glitter and hundreds and thousands.

Nikki, who runs the blog Yorkshire Wonders, is always drawn to the cupcakes at Disney. She said: “We found Anna’s Birthday Cupcake in the Norway Bakery, just near the Frozen ride in Epcot. It’s a gorgeous pale blue cupcake studded with tiny snowflakes. If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, it’s just one snack credit too.”

Nikki describes Walt Disney World as her family’s happy place. She said: “We love the rides, the shows and the amazing food. If we don’t get to go beforehand, and I am hoping we do, we’ll be returning in 2021 to enjoy the parks and my 50th birthday celebrations.”

One for the chocoholics

Walt Disney World Resort

The Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake tastes as marvellous as it sounds.

The cake, which is crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, is topped off with a generous scoop of vanilla ice-cream and lashings of caramel and chocolate drizzle.

Kimberly from Savvy Mama Lifestyle said the toffee dessert is her favourite. She commented: “Guests can locate this sweet treat at Liberty Tree Tavern inside of Magic Kingdom park. The cake has a cookie-like texture and baked to perfection with toffee and chocolate pieces with each bite, it's rich and buttery. The Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake is a fantastic table-service dessert that's worth saving room for.”

The Atlanta based family travel blogger said Walt Disney World has something all the family will enjoy. Kimberly said: “There aren't many places that offer something for the whole family, but Disney World seems to fit the bill. From world-class dining options and spas to adventures designed for kids, you can please your entire party. Even after years of visiting Walt Disney World, our family still has a reason to go back because they always offer something new.”

All things caramel at Karamell-Kuche

Karamell-Kuche at Walt Disney World

Karamell-Kuche, the sweet shop in the Germany pavilion at Epcot, is brimming with all things caramel. This shop is sure to satisfy even the most hardcore sweet tooth. Tina, who runs the blog Footprints in Pixie Dust, explains what her must-have sweet tooth snacks are, including a simple popcorn treat.

She said: “I am a die-hard fan of the traditional Dole Whip Floats from Aloha Isle or Sunshine Seasons, but you can also find me munching on Werther’s caramel popcorn from Karamell-Kuche, especially if it is fresh and hot, a brioche ice-cream sandwich from L’artisan de Glaces or a troll horn from Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe.” L’artisan de Glaces offer gorgeous ice-creams and sorbets in a variety of flavours including coconut white chocolate, caramel fleur de sel and pomegranate.

What on earth are troll horns? They are a crunchy, sugar-coated, horn-shaped pastry, shell filled with cloudberry jam and silky-smooth whipped cream.

Tina said she loves how Walt Disney World provides “an opportunity for families to escape the stresses of life in exchange for making forever magical memories together”.

She said: “The very first time we visited as a family we experienced magic we had never seen anywhere else. Our youngest has severe food allergies and one Disney chef went above and beyond to ensure our son had a delicious and magical meal sprinkled with pixie dust.

“Since then, we have made Walt Disney World our second home. It is a place where my son feels safe, and we, as a family, can create magical moments together that will last a lifetime.
