A guide to all the different ways you can see the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is one of the most spectacular places on earth and fortunately there are loads of different ways you can see this phenomenon.

With its unique combinations of geologic colour and erosion the Grand Canyon is certainly one of the most spectacular places in the world to visit.

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, around 18 miles wide and approximately a mile deep and is therefore a large area to try and explore. Here we take you through the different ways visitors can see the Grand Canyon.

Helicopter tours

There are a variety of Grand Canyon helicopter tours and tickets available and we take you through the best tours you and your family can go on during your vacation.

Golden Eagle Helicopter Tour

The Golden Eagle Helicopter Tour allows visitors to see one of the natural wonders of the world from above.

The Papillon Group’s Golden Eagle Helicopter Tours operate on a daily basis, all-year round. Visitors on the Golden Eagle Helicopter tour get picked up from Boulder City in Nevada and then go on a scenic helicopter flight along the Grand Canyon West Rim.

Visitors can see the likes of Lake Mead, the Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, the Colorado River and lots more during the 70-minute helicopter flight.

Wind Dancer deluxe Grand Canyon tour

The Wind Dancer Deluxe Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour is one of Maverick Helicopters most popular tours.

The Wind Dancer deluxe tour, which is available through Attraction Tickets Direct Ireland, will soar into the sky and lucky ticket holders will experience breath-taking views of the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Temple Rock and Fortification Hill before heading to the Grand Canyon.

Once at the Grand Canyon the helicopter will descend 3,500 feet into the canyon and land at a private site on Hualapai Indian Territory.

Champagne, beverages and a gourmet snack box will be served on arrival and visitors will be 300 feet above the Colorado River and will get close-up views of the Bowl of Fire’s stunning red rock formations.

The four-hour long tour will conclude with a stunning flight over downtown Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Strip.

ATV Adventure Tours

While you can get a bird’s eye view of the Grand Canyon from a helicopter, ATV Adventure tours of the Grand Canyon let you get up close to the beauty this area has to offer.

Visitors can saddle up and rev up their ATV or RZR and speed along the various trails in the Grand Canyon National Park.

The tour is an escorted tour and the guide will take groups through some of the most scenic and beautiful desert paths the Grand Canyon has to offer.

If you are somewhat of an adrenaline junkie then you can either read our Adrenaline junkie’s guide to the Entertainment Capital of the World article or can book up the Grand Canyon ATV Adventure Tour.

Overnight Cabin Stay

If you want to take a step further and not just see the Grand Canyon but want to stay within the national park then you can.

The Grand Canyon West Overnight Cabin Stay by Helicopter means visitors can stay at the Hualapai Ranch for the night, which is located on the Grand Canyon West Rim.

During your stay visitors can enjoy western hospitality and a cowboy entertainment show as well as take part in horse-drawn Wagon Rides and classes on how to rope, quick draw and Tomahawk toss.

Horse riding tours in the Grand Canyon

There are lots of horse riding tours available in the Grand Canyon and riders will get to see some of the most beautiful parts of Northern Arizona in the process.

Horse riding tours and excursions can take people to the Grand Canyon itself and other nearby attractions such as the impressive Grand Canyon Caverns, which fall 200-300 feet below the surface.

The tours are guided by experts who share their knowledge of the history of the Grand Canyon and help groups ride the horse if there are complete novices within the party.

Horse riding in the Grand Canyon is certainly one of the best ways to see the Grand Canyon’s natural beauty and visitors also get to retrace the footsteps of cowboys from years gone by.

Other great ways to see Arizona and Nevada

Although the Grand Canyon is certainly one of the most stunning places in the US, the states of Arizona and Nevada are home to even more naturally beautiful places.

There are other great ways to see both states and here are just a couple of activities we recommend you try to see the beauty this region has to offer.

Black Canyon

Another great option is to go on a helicopter and black canyon rafting tour.

Black Canyon Adventures take groups on a raft along the Colorado River to see the stunning Black Canyon.

The tour from Black Canyon Adventures starts at Boulder City and follows the Lower Portal Road, which is the same road construction workers for the Hoover Dam took.

Groups will then board the raft at the base of the Hoover Dam and will get stunning views of the Hoover Dam and the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.

Over the course of the next three hours groups will travel down the 12-miles of the Black Canyon National Water Trail and see a range of geological wonders including 2,000 feet walls of rock, waterfalls and hot springs.

Zip lining

Another great way to see the stunning outdoors that this area boasts is to go on a zipline adventure.

Flightlinez Bootleg is only 30 minutes away from the strip of Las Vegas, but the Mojave Desert seems like a million miles away from the Strip.

There are four different zip lines and over the four runs guests will travel over 8,000 feet and reach speeds of 60mph down the Red Mountains.

The three-hour experience may involve some hiking, but the stunning views of the desert and the mountains certainly make the experience worthwhile.
